Old-School Cool

Originally constructed in 1909 as Beltzhoover Elementary School, the historic building at 304 Cedarhurst Street served generations of Pittsburgh students and families for nearly a century. Designed in the Classical Revival style, the school became a neighborhood landmark and was later recognized for its architectural and historical significance, earning a place on the National Register of Historic Places. After the school closed in 2004, the building remained an important symbol of the community's heritage and educational legacy. Today, its thoughtful transformation into Dr. Louis A. Venson Senior Lofts preserves that history while creating new opportunities for older adults to age in place within the neighborhood.

The property is named in honor of Dr. Louis A. Venson, a beloved educator and former principal who began serving at Beltzhoover Elementary in 1970 and left a lasting impact on generations of students, families, and residents. Widely respected for his commitment to education and community development, Dr. Venson's legacy continues through a building that remains dedicated to serving the people of Beltzhoover
